About Us

Founded in 2014, CareER (Pronunciation: Care-E-R) is Hong Kong’s first non-profit talent avenue and peer support network for higher-educated individuals with disabilities and special educational needs (SEN).

The CareER team, 2024.

Through professional job skill training workshops, peer support community, and job-matching services, we connect capable minds with inclusive employers to unlock potential, provide the right career opportunities, and shift the narrative from charity to capability.

Our Belief

We believe talent has no boundaries and focus on abilities, not disabilities. By bridging business and disability inclusion sectors, we create a more inclusive community together.

Our Vision

To maximise the capabilities of tertiary-educated individuals with disabilities and SEN; to enable them to become independent and contributing members of society.

Our Mission

  1. 1. To connect students and graduates with disabilities and SEN with employment opportunities and to attain their full potential through empowerment of job skills, job market information, workplace social skills and mental resilience.

  2. 2. To promote disability self acceptance and workplace disability disclosure through peer led sharing channels among higher educated communities with disabilities and SENs.

  3. 3. To increase positive awareness and convey actionable know-how on disabilities inclusion among employers and higher education institutions through a systematic and measurable framework that encourages disability inclusion as an organizational imperative and embraced into business agenda.

Our Value

CareER believes career is of paramount importance in developing independence, confidence and talents in each person with disabilities and as a whole.

Who We Serve: The 9 Dimensions of Talent

To truly drive workplace inclusion, we support higher-educated individuals across diverse disciplines and professional capabilities. Our member pool spans 9 distinct classifications of disability and Special Educational Needs (SEN), covering physical, cognitive, and invisible strengths:

  • Physical / Visual / Hearing Impairment

  • Chronic Illnesses / Mental illness

  • Specific Learning Difficulty / Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder / Speech and Language Impairments / Autism Spectrum Disorder

By focusing entirely on capability over disability, we ensure these elite minds are matched with corporate roles where they can drive genuine business value.

CareER milestones: founded and led by people with disabilities in 2014; launched RunnERthon in 2016 and the Jockey Club Thriving Grass career development programme in 2018; established its first scholarship with Deutsche Bank and charitable foundations in 2019–2020; introduced the Disability Inclusion Index in 2021; celebrated its tenth anniversary with a book documenting its journey from Hong Kong to the global stage in 2025.
