Our Story

A CareER gathering bringing together members and employers.

The Missing Gap in Hong Kong's Workforce

Before 2014, traditional local charities and subvented NGOs focused almost entirely on low-skilled, manual labor placement for individuals with disabilities. Higher-educated talent with special educational needs (SEN) or hidden disabilities were completely left behind, facing immense systemic barriers despite holding competitive university degrees. CareER was founded in 2014 by university graduates with disabilities to bridge this exact gap. We shifted the narrative away from traditional, pity-based "charity" toward market-rate corporate capability, establishing Hong Kong’s first professional talent avenue and peer-led support network specifically designed for higher-educated SEN minds.

The Philosophy Behind Our Name

  • Care in Education & Recruitment (CareER): We actively educate and empower our members to navigate their professional journeys, while simultaneously advising corporate employers and HR leaders on the strategic implementation of workplace inclusion.

  • Care for the Community: CareER operates as a peer-led ecosystem. We support our members' personal and long-term professional growth, encouraging them to mentor others and actively contribute their expertise back to society.

  • The Focus on Capability (Career): We firmly believe that a meaningful, fulfilling career is fundamental to independence and self-confidence. We look entirely at an individual’s capability, ensuring equal opportunities for higher-educated talent to thrive.

Symbolism of Our Logo

The CareER logo consists of four rings resting on a foundational block. This reflects the dual-sided ecosystem we manage daily:

  • The Four Rings: Represent our four key stakeholders—Higher-Educated people with Disabilities and Special Educational Needs (SEN), Employers, Educational Institutions, and The Community.

  • The Foundational Block: Represents CareER, serving as the central, reliable platform that supports, connects, and aligns these stakeholders to co-create a truly disability-inclusive workforce.
